Ohio Almost Defunded One of Its Most Beloved Institutions.
In a move that can only be described as "why ruin a good thing?" Ohio lawmakers recently floated the idea of slashing state funding for public libraries, you know, the places that provide internet access, after-school help, job resources, and the occasional tax form, all without trying to sell you a subscription box.
Under the original House proposal, the state would scrap the current Public Library Fund formula, which automatically sends a percentage of state tax revenue to libraries, and instead hand out a flat funding amount every two years. Sounds stable, right? Except the new flat number was $100 million less than what Governor DeWine (a longtime library fan) had proposed.
Library leaders immediately sounded the alarm. In Columbus, library CEO Lauren Hagen said the cuts could threaten 17% of their operating budget. Across the state, smaller libraries braced for the worst. “How many branches do we have to close?” went from hypothetical to urgent.
Michelle Francis of the Ohio Library Council called it “devastating.” And she wasn’t being dramatic, Ohio libraries saw over 44 million visits in 2023. That’s like every Ohioan stopping by four times… or one Browns fan copying the only way they know how: 44 million copies of Disappointment Management for Dummies.
Thankfully, the plot thickened, in a good way. Hundreds of librarians stormed the Statehouse for “Library Day” (quietly, of course), and by Tuesday afternoon, lawmakers reversed course. The Public Library Fund stays, and every library is now expected to get more money next year. The exact amount? Still TBD, lawmakers will now decide the funding each cycle instead of relying on a fixed percentage.
Governor DeWine encouraged librarians to keep lobbying. “Statistics are interesting. Stories are people,” he said, which is a very nice way of reminding everyone that numbers don’t speak as loudly as someone explaining how they got their first job thanks to free Wi-Fi and a quiet place to print resumes.
Former Governor Richard Celeste, who helped create the fund in the ‘80s, summed it up best: “There aren’t many things Ohio ranks #1 in… but our library system is one of them.” And then, in a mic-drop moment: “When you’re trading money for debt service on a $600 million domed stadium versus something like this… I mean, it’s rotten priorities.”
Agreed.
So for now, Ohio’s libraries live to lend another day. But if lawmakers try this again? Just know the librarians are watching, quietly, patiently, alphabetically.

The $11 Million Guru: Finance Influencer Charged in Massive Fraud Case

Tyler Bossetti promised financial freedom, 30% returns, and the secrets to wealth. Instead, prosecutors say he delivered one of the largest financial frauds in recent Ohio history.
The 31-year-old Columbus-based influencer, who built a massive following with slick videos, real estate tips, and credit-repair promises, is facing federal wire fraud charges after allegedly defrauding investors out of more than $11 million. According to court documents, Bossetti encouraged followers to pour money into what he pitched as low-risk, high-return property flips. But behind the scenes, investigators say he used the cash to fund luxury housing, vehicles, and a risky crypto habit that went south fast.
Between 2019 and 2023, Bossetti reportedly received over $20 million in investor funds, $11.2 million of which has vanished. Prosecutors say Bossetti funneled funds from newer investors to pay off earlier ones, in classic Ponzi scheme fashion.
And yet, his digital empire continues. Bossetti still posts on Substack and Instagram, where he touts credit repair services and takes aim at critics he calls “peasant trolls.”

“You don’t stop a machine by throwing shade, you just prove it’s working,” he wrote in a recent post. “So to the ones who are serious about breaking free and leveling up financially, let’s work. The rest? Stay broke, bitter, and busy watching.”
Bossetti and his companies, Boss Lifestyle LLC and Bossetti Enterprises LLC, have been hit with at least a dozen civil lawsuits since 2023. Many are still active, alleging lost investments, unpaid debts, and misleading practices.
A sealed plea was entered in U.S. District Court on April 22, with an arraignment set for July 13. His attorney declined to comment.
So if someone promises you 30% returns and a Lamborghini mindset… maybe double-check that math before sending the wire transfer.
