And That’s Where We’re At…

A human person, legitimately named "Matthew Pancake" (not to be confused with Matthew's Pancake House in Little River, South Carolina) was arrested with “multiple gerbils in his pants”

“Multiple Gerbils Recovered”

In a heist that sounds like a fever dream, Matthew Pancake, 31, was nabbed for breaking into multiple stores while sporting leopard-print pajamas.

Following a restaurant break-in, officers traced him outside a Petland, where multiple animals were on the loose. After catching a dog, two bunnies, and several birds, officers were able to track down Pancake who was found snoozing near Big Lots with not one, but four gerbils in his pants!

You really can’t make this up…

Petland had a Veterinarian come in and check on all the animals and the pets are all A okay, but a ferret and a few hamsters are still on the lam.

Ohio is truly becoming, THE Florida of the North

In the News

RockYou2024 is so just Rockyou2021…..
On our nation's birthday, the largest data breach in history occurred!

Over the 4th of July holiday, while we were enjoying hot dogs, discussing the parking situation at Boom, and watching Uncle Terry's antics, a massive cyber attack took place. But let’s BACK UP… The breach exposed 10 billion unique passwords to the dark web.

These passwords were stored in a file named RockYou2024, which contained private information on customers from companies such as Ticketmaster and Santander, collected over a span of 2 decades. It's probably a good time to think about when you last changed your passwords.

RockYou2024, the largest known data breach, actually only added 1.5 billion passwords to the 8.5 billion that were already leaked in RockYou2021. It's essentially the same thing, just with more compromised data. It seems a bit lazy, doesn't it?

Now Let’s Look At The Numbers…
In 2023, the U.S. saw a historic peak in cybercrime damages, amounting to $12.5 billion, which is up 21% from the $10.3 billion reported in 2022

It's projected to get worse in 2024, with global cybercrime damage costs expected to grow 15% per year, reaching $9.5 trillion in 2024 and $10.5 trillion annually by 2025.

Such substantial monetary losses are causing companies to raise prices. While big corporations like Ticketmaster (Thanks to tSwift) and IBM can handle the impact.

Smaller companies that fall victim to cyber-attacks may not recover. In fact, a quarter of them end up closing down. Shockingly, 82% of these attacks are the result of human error such as falling for malicious links in emails or phishing, where an attacker impersonates someone else to gather information from a higher-up in a company.

What else can you do besides changing your password?
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): This can be in the form of Face ID, an Authenticator app, or an extra pin. It involves opting into an additional step when trusted websites and applications require you to confirm your identity. Here at onlyincbus, we recommend Google Authenticator.

Update your software as frequently as possible: People are working hard to make upgrades to our security, but these upgrades won't work if we don't update. Turning on automatic updates solves that problem.

Use a random password generator: to ensure your password is truly random and not just a reference from an obscure Jim Carrey movie that you hope no one saw.
